Abstract: As primary catalyst for organic synthesis plants, metal alkyls have been used more and more wide- ly in petrochemical industries. Protection and control of metal alkyl fires have become realistic and urgent issues due to its extremely active chemical properties. This pa- per studies on the particular characteristics of metal al- kyls fires and the fire-fighting mechanism of Class D dry- powder fire extinguishing agent specialized for metal al- kyls fires. It also analyzes and summarizes the testing re- sults from the performance testing experiment of fixed Class D dry-powder fire extinguishing system. Then the paper determines the configuration requirements for fixed Class D dry-powder fire extinguishing system. It presents constructive suggestions on the development of Class D dry-powder fire extinguishing system specialized for metal alkyls fires as well.
