Abstract: Safety capacity deficiency of subcontractor and weak safety management of general contractor have become the major reasons that lead to frequent accidents. It is of realistic significance for the general contractor to involve the management of subcontractors into its own safety management system to ensure safety in construction and improve the safety performance of the general contractor. The problems and causes of subcontractor safety management are studied and analyzed from both the perspectives of the general contractor and the subcontractor. And it is concluded that the root cause for the problems is economic benefits and the key is related to the management of general contractor. Some suggestions on strengthening the safety management of subcontractors are put forward from the perspectives of the general contractor.
